interview: vanessa amorosi
Vanessa Amorosi is the talented Australian singer who has grown up before our very eyes. We love her for her voice, and for her down to earth, approachable nature.
The second single from her forthcoming album “Perfect” has just been released and it is described as “a powerful rock/pop smash”.
It is exciting times for Vanessa, her new album “Somewhere in the Real World” will be released on May 24th 2008, and she is the face of AFL in a special television campaign.
You will be seeing and hearing much more of Vanessa Amorosi, and this month she took some time out of her busy schedule to answer a few questions for us:
B&L: How would you describe your new album?
Vanessa: It’s very diverse, with a strong rock / soul influence.
B&L: How does it feel to be the face of AFL?
Vanessa: Amazing! I have always loved AFL, so it’s great to be able to be involved.
B&L: Which team do you go for and who is your favourite player?
Vanessa: Carlton and Chris Judd
B&L: Do you get nervous before performing?
Vanessa: No, because it’s something I’ve grown up doing... The stage is like my home, I feel most comfortable there.
B&L: You have grown up a lot since we first saw you, what has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?
Vanessa: Growing up in the music industry can be tough – you are in the public eye, and as you grow older I think it is difficult for people to shake the image of you as a child from their minds.
I have just continued to do live shows, and stay amongst it.. I must admit, I feel much more comfortable in myself now, and my job is much more enjoyable now as a woman than as a young teenager!
B&L: What is one thing we wouldn't know about you?
Vanessa: I love dirtbikes – I own them & race them.
B&L: How would you describe your fashion style?
Vanessa: 70s rock classic – I am loving the styles that are around at the moment.
B&L: Who are your favourite artists right now?
Vanessa: Janis Joplin is my all time favourite... and in terms of recent music… Probably Chris Cornell.
B&L: What is your favourite song from your new album and why?
Vanessa: No favourites, they’re all my babies!!
B&L: What do you love about Australia?
Vanessa: The people – I’ve travelled a lot, and I just don’t think you can beat the Aussie humour... We are very laid-back, chilled out people.
B&L: Any advice for those wanting a career in the music industry?
Vanessa: Be determined, and don’t expect it to happen straight away – be patient and work hard.
B&L: What does being a woman mean to you?
Vanessa: I really feel like I have come into myself as a woman in the past couple of years… But I don’t really know how to answer this question!
Being a woman means being a daughter, a sister, a mother… Being soft and being strong. I think women are very powerful creatures!
