Valentines Day

With Valentines Day fast approaching, you may be thinking how you will celebrate this “day of love.” Personally, I like to think every day with someone you love is worth celebrating, as are random acts of romance.

That being said, Valentine’s Day is a good excuse to show someone just what they mean to you.

St Valentine

Valentines Day started because of a Roman martyr priest, by the name of Saint Valentine. It goes back to medieval days, around 270 AD, when marriage became banned because “single men were better warriors than those with wife and children.”

It has been said that Valentine defied the king, and performed marriage ceremonies in secret. February 14th was his feast day, and the time was associated with love. Valentine is known for aiding those who are unhappy and in love.

Legend has it that Valentine is the one who sent the very first greeting. He was in prison, and in love. The object of his affection is said to be his jailor’s daughter, who made regular visits to him whilst he was locked away. Shortly before his death, he sent the girl a note, and signed it with the line “from your Valentine.”

Whether fact or fiction, it is a story of romance and does offer a reasonable explanation of where the phrase originated.

How to Celebrate

If you are in a relationship, the options of celebration are endless. Just remember, if you are choosing to dine out, book a table in advance as there is a high chance your restaurant of choice will be full.

Some other options you could explore:

A Getaway –

Valentine’s Day is a good excuse to take a deep breath and relax, planning a weekend away is not only romantic, but a good way to spend quality time together.

A Picnic –

What is more romantic than a picnic on the beach, with a chilled bottle of champagne. Pack your own meal, and a blanket to sit on.

Something Special to you –

Avoiding the crowds and go to your special place. This will add meaning to the day. Think about where you met, or somewhere that is close to both of you.

Do something new

Have you been talking about going rock climbing, wine tasting or to the Gold Class cinema? If there is something that you have been meaning to do as a couple, why not make Valentine’s Day the time to do it.

If you are single this Valentine’s Day, there is no reason to sit around in your pjs eating cake and moping. Use it as an excuse to meet men, or catch up with other single ladies. Why not have a girl’s night in? Remember, love isn’t just limited to the romantic type, show those around you that you care.

The Perfect Gift

As Valentine’s Day gets closer, Beauty and Lace will be featuring some groovy gift ideas in our Shopping Guide, but in the meantime, here are a few traditional and classic, yet always appreciated, gift suggestions.

Flowers

Flowers are almost always appreciated by the ladies, and a symbol of romance. Red roses are the most popular.

Chocolates

Chocolates are not the most exciting, unique or entertaining gift, but they sure do taste good! If your partner is a chocolate lover, and you are going for this option, make sure you treat them with something divine. We recommend Jessica Walker homemade chocolates, some of the nicest chocolates I have tried.

Love Notes

Love notes are inexpensive and thoughtful. Leave them around the house for your partner to find, or write up a voucher book they can use all year round. For example: “Gift voucher entitles you to one free massage” is always popular!

Lingerie

Whether a gift from him or something that you buy for yourself, lingerie is something you can both enjoy. You will find some gorgeous designs at www.heavenlylingerie.com.au

We wish you all a very Happy Valentines Day! Let your loved ones know how you feel, not just on February 14th, but every day of the year.
